what is

Natural Dyeing?

Natural dyeing utilizes plants, minerals and natural materials to create lasting pigments for various substrates. This process has been around for thousands of years and encompasses a variety of methods.

OUR

NATURAL

DYE METHOD.

We primarily use a bundle or bath dye method. The bundle dye method involves arranging natural material on fabric, creating a bundle, and applying heat or steam to extract pigment. For a dye bath, natural material is simmered in water to create a solid colored pigment.

OUR

materials.

Eso Studio believes everything has an inner beauty far beyond its outer appearance. Our process gives a second life to discarded natural materials. We collect leftover flowers from our local florist, use food scraps from our family restaurant, and forage for fallen plant material.

WHY WE LOVE NATURAL DYE.

To us, natural dyeing is an inspiring medium. Part art, part science, and part magic! The unique markings and subtle patterns that nature helps us to create are near impossible to repeat. An Eso Studio piece is truly one of a kind, made with awe and respect for our natural world. Our accessories and original artwork are all created using natural dyes.

our DIGITAL

DESIGN PROCESS.

To fully celebrate the beauty of our one of a kind pieces we digitally capture the markings nature has made. We then develop digital repeating patterns that are used for our wallpaper and home decor.
